Beneteau yachts from our own listings first, then the wider market.
Beneteau began in 1884, when shipwright Benjamin Bénéteau opened a boatyard in the sardine-fishing port of Croix-de-Vie, France, to build sailing fishing boats. Those boats had no engines and were built for speed, because the first boat back to harbor sold its catch at the best price. In 1909 Bénéteau designed the region's first engine-powered fishing boat. In the 1960s his grandchildren, Annette Roux and André Bénéteau, moved the yard into fiberglass pleasure boats.
Beneteau is still headquartered in Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie. It has been listed on the Paris stock exchange since 1984, but the founding family's holding company owns a majority of the group. Today's range covers Oceanis cruising sailboats and First performance sailboats, along with Antares and Flyer dayboats, Gran Turismo express cruisers, and Swift Trawler and Grand Trawler motor yachts. Beneteau built sailboats in Marion, South Carolina, from the mid-1980s until 2020, when it closed the plant and moved that production to France.
