About Grand Banks

Grand Banks began in Hong Kong in 1956, when Robert Newton and his sons John and Whit founded American Marine. In 1962 the yard commissioned naval architect Ken Smith to design a 36-foot wooden cruiser. The prototype, Spray, launched the following year, and production of the Grand Banks 36 began in 1964. The 36 was built in wood until 1973 and in fiberglass after that, and 1,141 were built before the model was retired in 2003.

Production began in Singapore in 1969 and moved to Malaysia in 1995, and the company builds today at Pasir Gudang, Johor. Grand Banks added its Eastbay line of Downeast-style boats in 1993 and bought Palm Beach Motor Yachts in 2014. Its classic Heritage trawlers and Aleutian raised-pilothouse models are no longer built. The current range is the GB54 to GB85 Long Range Cruisers, built on the company's V-WARP hull, plus the Eastbay 44 and 60.
