About Heritage East

Heritage East trawlers were built in Fuzhou, China, under the direction of Heritage Yachts, Inc., which did business as Yacht Registry in Dunedin, Florida, and began importing them in 1997. The 36 Sundeck was an updated version of the Nova 36 Sundeck, a Taiwan-built design of the mid-1980s. A 42 followed, and in spring 2004 a 46, which was the 42 with a four-foot cockpit. Doug Sharp of Sharp Design Group designed the newer models.

The hulls were strongly built of hand-laid fiberglass, with a full-length keel protecting the props, and new boats carried a five-year hull warranty. Interiors were finished in teak, and the importer described the boats as using U.S.-built components. The 36 had a single 220-hp Cummins diesel and a bow thruster; the 42 and 46 had twin 220-hp Cummins diesels. PassageMaker found the 36 well suited to couples cruising the Great Loop or living aboard.
