About Jefferson Yachts
Leon Shaw founded Jefferson Yachts in Jeffersonville, Indiana, in 1982. Shaw had co-founded Kentuckiana Yacht Sales there in 1960 and began importing trawlers from Asia in 1979. For Jefferson he partnered with the Liu family of Her Shine Marine in Taiwan, Jefferson's exclusive shipyard, which had delivered about 400 boats to the U.S. market by 2007. By the mid-2000s, Jefferson's Special Edition (SE) models were being built in mainland China.
Jefferson's lineup included Sundeck, Marquessa, Monticello, Viscount and Rivanna motor yachts, convertibles, and later the Starship and Pilothouse series, in sizes from 37 feet up to the 82-foot Starship Pilothouse; these cruisers are excellent Great Loop candidates. In the 1990s Jefferson also started the Marlago line of center-console boats. Jefferson Yachts filed for Chapter 7 liquidation in January 2012.
