About Kadey-Krogen Yachts

Kadey-Krogen grew out of a 42-foot trawler yacht that naval architect James Krogen designed with Florida yacht broker Art Kadey, drawing on the rugged working shrimp boat. The Krogen 42 launched in 1976, and 206 were built through 1998. From 1991 on, Krogens were built at a dedicated yard in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, and the company built nearly 700 yachts in all. Kadey-Krogen filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in July 2026, ending new production.

Krogens have a full-displacement hull with a fine entry and a wineglass transom, and critical areas of the hull were reinforced with Twaron, an aramid fiber also used in body armor. They are often used as liveaboards: by company estimates, up to 75 percent of owners lived aboard part- or full-time. Kadey-Krogen Yachts are excellent candidates for a Great Loop cruise.
