About Mainship

Mainship was founded in 1978 by John and Warren Luhrs, brothers from a New Jersey boatbuilding family who had already started Silverton Marine. Their first model, the Mainship 34 designed by John Cherubini, was a fuel-efficient diesel cruiser built in three versions through 1988, and the company went on to build more than 1,200 of these traditional cruisers. In 1992 production moved to St. Augustine, Florida.

In the 1990s Mainship brought back trawlers with new 35- and 39-foot models, later adding the 400 Trawler, and its Pilot series took its styling from New England lobster boats. Production stopped in January 2012, months before the parent company filed for bankruptcy. Marlow bought the brand that year and launched the Marlow-Mainship 32 in 2013, but Mainships are no longer built.
